What Will Chiropractic Care Cost?
What is the cost of chiropractic care?
No value can be put on an individual’s regained Health or Quality of Life. What price would you pay for a new found reservoir of energy or the ability to work with an enthusiasm you have not had for years? Under chiropractic care it is common for people to regularly report these types of lifestyle improvements.

That said, it’s a wise idea for financial planning purposes, to have an idea of the level investment which you may have to make and how it breaks down. This will be driven by the following 3 factors:
1. What YOUR health aims are.
2. Your bodies healing ability.
3. The fee structure of the Centre you choose.
The first two points are covered at How much time will it take to heal? and are largely influenced by you and your actions.
The third point is largely influenced by the Centre you choose and of course the region you live in. For illustrative purposes we have given 3 pricing regions L(London), NE(Northern England), Sc(Central Scotland)
The fee structure of any office can be divided as follows:
1. Initial Consultation
The content of the initial consultation will vary depending on the office you visit and this is key but it would tend to consist of:
a. Seeing the practice and meeting the Chiropractic Doctor.
b. Documenting your current and past health challenges.
c. An explanation of what chiropractic is and how it can
help you.
d. A full hands-on examination by the Doctor.
e. A proposed plan to restore your health.
Typical Fees:
L - £60
NE - £40
Sc - £50
The initial consultation may be offered free of charge. (If so it may not include a full examination in which case there may be a charge for the examination)
At the very least you should be able to arrange to see the practice and meet the Doctor without charge.
Many offices have promotions running or if you see a Chiropractic Health Stand at a public place it is likely that they have some type of promotional offer on.
If a friend or colleague is using a chiropractor they may be able to get you special price on an initial consultation as word-of-mouth referrals are highly sought after in any business.
A good questions to ask when booking an initial consultation (if there is a charge) may be:
“ Is it possible to come in to see the practice and meet the Doctor, without charge, before I book an initial consultation?”
ALL CHARGES SHOULD BE TRANSPARENT TO YOU AND SHOULD BE CLEARLY DISPLAYED/EXPLAINED
2. Quantitative Assessment Costs.
Most offices will have a policy of collecting some type of objective data before commencing care and most likely during care. This may be in the form of x-ray/MRI or sEMG and thermal scan.
Spinal X-Ray/MRI
Many offices take x-rays (and very occasionally MRI scans) as a function of the type of chiropractic technique they use. They are very valuable as an educational tool. X-Rays are easily justifiable as a method of protecting both yourself and the chiropractor as he/she would not want to use a particular technique which is not compatible with your spine (because of a weakness in your spine due to damage or deterioration). They do not however identify VERTEBRAL SUBLUXATIONS (interference to the nerves from a spinal bone being out of balance) as XRay imagines in the main only pick out hard structures. MRIs show nerve detail but can not identify incorrect mental impulse transmission down that nerve due to vertebral pressure. They do however show disc degeneration which is a symptom of vertebral subluxation.
Typical Costs for Full Spine X-Ray
L - £220
Sc - £180
NE - £120
sEMG or Thermal Scan
Scanning Electro Myograph is a very recent, non-invasive (no radiation) technology utilised in chiropractic which measures electrical activity either side of the spine (similar to an ECG used to measure activity of the heart) to give an indication of muscular balance. If a SUBLUXATION exists this shows as either muscles firing excessively (as the body works to correct the subluxation) or as muscles which have shut down.
A thermal spinal scan gives an indication of how effectively the autonomic (automatic or involuntary) nervous system is functioning. Your temperature is regulated every single moment by the brain and imbalances in this function manifest as excessive asymmetric thermal readings either side of the spine
Typical Costs for sEMG and Thermal Scan Assessment
L - £45
Sc - £30
NE - £25
3. Chiropractic Adjustment
This is the method a Doctor of Chiropractic uses to correct a VERTEBRAL SUBLUXATION.
Often chiropractic offices have a care plan to reduce the cost of a series of chiropractic adjustments. Occasionally they run family care plans to make care affordable for the whole family
Typical cost for a single adjustment
L - £45
Sc - £30
NE - £28
Details for care plans should be made available on request if not already displayed.
