How to Find A GREAT Chiropractor

How do I find a great chiropractor?
Yellow Pages? Adverts in the Paper? Websites? Promotional Activities in Public? Word of Mouth Recommendations? Signage outside the practice?
The sources of information for finding Chiropractors are the same as for any trade or profession but the difference is that the Chiropractic Doctor will be working with the most powerful system in your body – the nervous system.
The trick, of course, is knowing how to find a chiropractor who is GREAT for YOU.
Use the following information to optimise your choice before you waste any time or money.
a. MAKE SURE THE CHIRORPACTOR YOU ARE SEEING IS REGISTERED. In the UK, since 1999, all Chiropractors must be registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC). So, in your initial telephone call ask if the chiropractor is registered with the GCC. When you go to the chiropractor's office the GCC certification should be clearly visible. If it is not, ask to see it (as it is a contravention of the GCC code to not have it displayed).
The GCC are the government regulators. Their function is to enforce guidelines for chiropractors to protect the public. It is NOT to recommend or differentiate between chiropractors or the services they provide.
b. DETERMINE WHAT LEVEL OF CARE YOU WANT.
Understand what chiropractic is,
the different
phases of care available
and what you want from your care.find a great chiropractor
c. DETERMINE WHAT LEVEL OF CARE THE CHIROPRACTOR PROVIDES. There are 4 chiropractic professional associations in the UK which most chiropractors belong to. They tend to have differing philosophies with regard to the
Phases of Care
they provide. These differences stem generally from the universities at which the members received their chiropractic education.
The Associations are:
The United Chiropractic Association
The McTimoney Chiropractic Association
The Scottish Chiropractic Association
And
The British Chiropractic Association
All the associations have a ‘find a chiropractor’ search tool and further details can be found on the relevant associations’ websites. find a great chiropractor
This is intended as a guide only. ASK THE INDIVIDUAL PRACTITIONER/OFFICE for full details of the service they provide.
The bottom line is that if your chosen chiropractor provides all three phases of care then you will have more health care options. WHETHER YOU CHOSE to utilise all phases of care is entirely up to you – after all it is your body and your life.
d. HAS THE CHIROPRACTOR BEEN RECOMMENDED TO YOU? Whilst yell.com, Yellow Pages, newspaper adverts and websites are all useful sources of information the most valuable source is a good word of mouth recommendation so ask your friends, family and work colleagues if they can recommend a good chiropractor.
If you cannot get a good word of mouth recommend from someone you know then contact us at Low Fell Chiropractic. We will attempt to recommend you to a good chiropractor elsewhere in the UK and we are also in touch with some of the best chiropractors in Europe. WE DO NOT GET COMMISSION FOR THIS SERVICE. We are already successful and know other successful chiropractors across the UK and Europe. We do it because we know CHIROPRACTIC WORKS and we want you to get the very best chiropractic care available.
e. IS THE SERVICE BEING OFFERED TRANSPARENT? It should be clear to you from the word ‘Go’ what is being offered in the office and
how much it costs.
In many cases, you should at least be able to drop into the Chiropractic office to see what is being offered and perhaps meet the doctor at NO CHARGE. It is part of the GCC code of practice that prices are displayed.
f. ARE YOU COMFORTABLE WITH YOUR CHOSEN PRACTITIONER? This is by far the most important point. If you are at ease with your practitioner and you feel they can add real value to your life, then you are most likely in the right place.
g. WHAT IF YOU GET IT WRONG? If you start care and you find the chiropractor or their
adjusting technique
really isn’t for you:
1. Don’t despair. Different chiropractors use differing techniques so try to find one who uses a technique that works best with you and your body.
2. If you’ve paid in advance there should be a clause in the contract to get a refund for the care not yet delivered.
3. If things go really badly and you have a complaint frame it in the first instance to the chiropractor, then to their professional body. If you do not get satisfaction at this stage you can take it further to the GCC. find a great chiropractor
